Saint Lucia’s Leading Manufacturing Company, Baron Foods, Has Given Its Support To A Practical Training Session For Farmers.

The Session Was Held On Thursday, June 17, 2016, For Farmers Who Supply Agricultural Produce To The Company.

Approximately Thirty Farmers Attended.

The Training Was Conducted By The Caribbean Agricultural Research And Development Institute (CARDI), On A Farm In Micoud That Is Operated By Mr. Jn Baptiste, A Hot Pepper Farmer Who Has A Contract To Supply Baron Foods.

The Activity Began At 9.Am Under The Oversight Of CARDI Representative, Mr. Ronnie Pilgrim And His Assistant And Lasted Until About 11:30 Am.

Afterwards The Farmers Were Transported To Baron Foods For Lunch.

The Training Continued With A Power Point Presentation Led By Mr Pilgrim, Who Further Explained Modern Planting And Harvesting Techniques.

Farmers Also Discussed And Recommended Solutions To Their Day To Day Problems.

These Included The Availability Of Fertilizers And Pesticides And The Cost And Duties Imposed On The Products.

The Training Session Was Held To Help Farmers Overcome Some Of The Many Problems Encountered On The Farm, By Learning New Technical Methods Of Planting And Harvesting Hot Peppers.

Farmers Also Learnt Simpler And Cheaper Means Of Installing Irrigation Systems.

Baron Foods (St. Lucia) Limited Total Quality Manager (TQM), Ms. Cardee Alexis, Described The Training Session As Having Been Very Informative.
